SketchUp Models from Old Prints, part 2
June 18th, 2007
This is the finished version of the model I mentioned last week. Created in SketchUp and textured from an image of an old print. Digitalurban blogged this today, which spurred me on to get it finished.
The picture shows the completed model in SketchUp compared with the original print.
Here’s the KMZ file for viewing in Google Earth:
Church of St Martin in the Fields
(3MB)
… and the SketchUp file:
St Martin in the Fields, SKP (2MB)
The KMZ file size is probably larger than ideal for a model of this complexity, but that’s mainly down to my inefficient handling of the source image:
- Too much image perspective manipulation in SketchUp, resulting in texture duplication in the Google Earth KMZ.
- I could have almost certainly increased JPEG compression without any visible difference in the finished model.

Good model. The transparent urn-type shapes loose their transparency when brought into good earth.
This one is cool. I even got Google Sketch up But when I finished downloading and i clicked it s’ icon, it doesn’t open. Can you give me a solution for this, please.
