SketchUp Models from Old Prints

June 11th, 2007

St Martin in the Fields, SketchUp ModelI’ve been working on this SketchUp/Google Earth  model which uses textures from a scanned 19th century print.  Suppose you could call it SketchUp PrintMatch.  ; )

I was interested to see whether the idea would work - the answer, as you can see from the pic. is ‘yes’, but I think the monotonous grey makes the model look a little lifeless.

St Martin in the Fields, PrintThe church is ‘St Martin in the Fields’, Trafalgar Square, London.

I’ll upload a Google Earth KMZ and write more when it’s finished - some ornamentation to add first (taking longer than planned).  Meanwhile here’s the near-finished SketchUp file, if anyone wants to dissect it.

Note: The model isn’t correctly scaled or geo-referenced,  and will end up in Boulder Colorado if it’s exported from SketchUp to Google Earth.
