20 Fenchurch St, the Walkie Talkie
May 24th, 2007
Believe it or not this unusual shaped structure, designed by architect Rafael Vinoly is a serious skyscraper proposal for the City of London.
The top floors will include what’s described as a Sky Gardens, Which will be open to the public, include real trees and other plants and incorporate a balcony with views across the river.
Apparently the top heavy shape provides a solution to the problem that floorspace near the top of a building is always more valuable than that lower down,
Unsurprisingly it’s proven hugely controversial, with even UNESCO getting involved due to it’s proximity to the world heritage listed Tower of London.
Modeled in SketchUp, June 2006.
